IFP Statement on the Passing of Shona Ferguson

Hon. Velenkosini Hlabisa, MPL
IFP President & Leader of the Official Opposition in the KZN Legislature

On behalf of the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), our Founder and President Emeritus, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, our National Executive Committee (NEC), and the entire party at large, we extend our sincere and heartfelt condolences on the passing of Mr Aaron Arthur Ferguson – better known as Shona Ferguson – to his wife, Connie Ferguson and their children, as well as the Ferguson family, their friends, and the millions of local and international fans of his work, and that of Ferguson Films and the Ferguson Foundation.

The news and untimely passing of Mr Ferguson due to Covid-19-related complications, as reported by the Ferguson Foundation representative, Mr Conrad Mwanza, to the media yesterday, was met with shock and deep sadness by all in the IFP.

South Africa is once again at a loss as we mourn the passing of a creative legend and multi-talented actor, producer and filmmaker. The entertainment industry has lost a giant in the field.

We are, however, comforted by the fact that Mr Ferguson’s legacy will forever live on through the recently established Ferguson Foundation. The aim of the Foundation, which is to nurture, encourage and develop young South African talent in the multimedia, art and entertainment industry, will ensure that Mr Ferguson’s vision and mission to upskill young people in our country will continue.

The celebrated and much revered work of the late Mr Ferguson will forever be remembered by millions, who loved and stayed tuned to watch and follow his gripping television drama series, co-produced by his beloved wife, Connie Ferguson.

I also wish to use this opportunity to thank the entire Ferguson family, in particular, Ferguson Films, for creating many new jobs in the sector and for empowering bright, young and talented individuals through their business, and now through their Foundation.

Mr Ferguson was a force in the industry. South Africa salutes Mr Shona Ferguson. May his soul forever rest in perfect peace. Lala Ngoxolo, Shona Ferguson.
