IFP welcomes life jail terms for KZN principal killers

Jul 10, 2019 | Press Releases

The IFP welcomes the life sentences handed to three men accused of murdering Southlands Secondary School former principal Gona Pillay in her Silverglen home in 2017.

Basil Underhill, Braveman Underhill and Fredboy Msomi each also received 13 years for the robbery with aggravating circumstances in the Durban High Court today.

We commend Acting Judge Naresh Bhika for showing no mercy to the killers. The IFP denounces this kind of action and is happy with the sentences handed down which befit the crime committed. The IFP denounces this kind of action and is happy with the sentences handed down which befit the crime committed.

As a result, removing them from society for what might perhaps be for the rest of their lives it’s a good thing to do.

At the same time, we believe now is the moment for our lawmakers to ensure that the killing of a teacher should be considered as an extraordinary crime.  Such a crime should be punishable by a mandatory, no-parole-allowed sentence. We have to let teacher killers know they will not get away with it.
