IFP welcomes Ministers’ commitment to review SAA Durban-Bangalore flight route

The IFP welcomes Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan’s commitment to review the South African Airways Durban to Bangalore, India flight route in a response to my written parliamentary question.

This comes as SAA no longer flies directly to Bangalore from Durban but via the SOEs share partner Emirates Airlines.

Minister Gordhan has indicated that once SAA has addressed its entire cost structure and profitability, the matter will be reviewed.

We certainly welcome Minister Gordhan’s frank response to the current market conditions and the viability of flights for the ailing national carrier.

It is our hope that with the guidance of Minister Gordhan, SAA and its Board will get their house in order to ensure that we restore confidence in our national carrier.

The IFP will continue to monitor developments within SAA and ensure that all routes which were once operational are reviewed and assessed to recommence.
