IFP welcomes provision of electricity for residents of uMhlabuyalingana Municipality

The IFP welcomes the much-deserved relief provided by the electrification of over 761 households in the Mshudu area, in Ward 12 of uMhlabuyalingana Municipality, which falls under Induna Thokozani Tembe.

This is the very first time that the residents in this area will receive electricity.

Yesterday, the IFP met with a delegation of the National Department of Public Enterprises, as well as the appointed contractor tasked with connecting houses in the area to the grid over the next six months.

This follows the IFP’s continued calls on the Minister of Public Enterprises, Pravin Gordhan, to intervene. We therefore, wish to extend our gratitude to the Minister for his swift intervention in this project, and for setting aside political differences in order to ensure that service delivery comes first.

Indeed, we are elected to serve the community, for the upliftment and betterment of our society. This should be emulated by all Ministers, MECs, Mayors and Councillors.

The IFP urges Minister Gordhan to continue engaging with residents of Ward 12 in the Mshudu area, and to ensure that after six months the electrification project is implemented successfully.

Furthermore, the IFP implores Minister Gordhan to prioritise the entire uMhlabuyalingana Municipality. It is lagging far behind with electrification projects, as was revealed by the Local Government Handbook in 2018.

We call on the community to safeguard the infrastructure, and to ensure that the electrification continues without compromise.
