IFP Wins Highly Contested uMhlabuyalingana Ward 19

Apr 27, 2023 | Press Releases

The IFP in KZN is grateful and humbled by the support and vote of confidence that has been displayed by the people of uMhlabuyalingana Ward 19 in yesterday’s hotly contested by-elections. The IFP won the Ward, which was previously controlled by the ANC, outright.

In this landslide victory, the IFP collected a total of 1 919 votes (53%), while the ANC managed 1 361 votes (38%), and the EFF only 9% of the votes. The IFP managed to win the elections, despite alleged discrepancies and election irregularities on the part of the ANC.

The IFP congratulates the people of Ward 19 for liberating themselves from the control of the ANC, which continues to put itself and its leaders ahead of the people’s needs and interests. Society has come to realise that the IFP is the party to trust for efficient service delivery for the betterment of the people.

This victory is also a clear indication that the ANC is selfishly and undeservingly holding on to power in uMkhanyakude District, even though it is not in the majority and the people of uMkhanyakude continue to reject it. It is clear that the COGTA MEC, Bongi Sithole-Moloi, and her party the ANC do not care about the needs of the people of uMkhanyakude. Instead, they fear seeing the change and development that the IFP stands to bring when it takes charge in uMkhanyakude.

We are thankful for the legacy of the IFP’s Founder and President Emeritus, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, which has been a motivating force in all IFP victories. We are also grateful for and thankful to all the IFP volunteers, activists and ground forces. This sweet victory will bring liberation to the people of Ward 19 and uMhlabuyalingana, as it offers the IFP stability in the Municipality.

The IFP urges its newly-elected Councillor in Ward 19 to emulate uMntwana wakwa Phindangene, Prince Buthelezi, and serve the people of uMhlabuyalingana with dignity, honour, and diligence.
