The Inkatha Freedom Party Women’s Brigade calls on the court to ensure that the suspect involved in the killing of Richmond Municipal Deputy Mayor, Ms Thandazile Phoswa is not granted bail or even considered for parole if found guilty.
“It will not be in the interest of justice to grant bail to someone who has planned to murder another person. If he is granted bail, the criminal justice system of the country will be doing a grave injustice to the family and friends of Ms Phoswa and the community at large. Showing leniency towards a murder accused is an injustice to women in particular. So we are saying no to women abuse, this must come to an absolute end. We are sick and tired by the manner in which our women are being killed,” said IFP Women’s Brigade National Chairperson, Mrs Thembeni Madlopha-Mthethwa.
“Anyone who kills a woman irrespective of which political party or role they play in society must be punished severely. People are taking women for granted just because they know that they are defenceless and are soft targets. Such people are a danger to society and must not be granted bail. They should rot in jail, they are a menace to society and should not be allowed to live among law-abiding citizens. We don’t want them back into this community. Therefore, our justice system must prove to be a protector of women. The heinous nature of the crime should not be underestimated,” continued Mrs Madlopha-Mthethwa.
The IFPWB would like to send its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Ms Phoswa.
