IFPYB: Statement on the passing of Comrade Bhekani Gasa (35)

May 14, 2018 | Press Releases

The IFP Youth Brigade has suffered a second blow with the death of Comrade Bhekani Philemon Gasa, its NEC Member and Member of the IFP National Council, the Party’s highest decision making body in between Conferences.

Comrade Bhekani passed away of natural causes after a long illness on Saturday, 12 May 2018 in a Richards Bay hospital.

The news of his passing are a major blow as the IFPYB was still reeling over the tragic killing of Comrade Sbuyiselo Dlamini on Friday, 11 May 2018.

Comrade Gasa had served in various structures of the IFPYB which saw him eventually elected onto the IFPYB National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Council of the IFP in 2011 until his passing.

He had served as the IFPYB National Organiser from 2012 to 2015; at the time of his passing he was a Municipal Official at the Mtubatuba Local Municipality.

Comrade Bhekani was an energetic, humble and dedicated leader in the IFP who served with professional conduct.

We have lost a leader, comrade, brother and friend.

This is indeed a very difficult time for the IFP Youth Brigade.

Our departed Brother was a grassroots man who strongly believed in listening to the People and in solving their problems. Comrade Gasa believed in solving problems.

He was a fearless debater, and always made meaningful contributions.

During his protracted long illness we had prayed and hoped that he would recover and return to full active duty and serve his country through the IFP. We must now confront the reality that we had hoped against hope.

In the execution of his duties Comrade Gasa was very selfless and always available.

During his tenure as National Organiser he diligently oversaw the revival of branches and structures of the IFPYB which are now fully functional.

A task team of the IFPYB NEC lead by Comrade Brian Masondo, the IFPYB National Treasurer, is working on the arrangements for the funeral and these will be communicated upon their finalisation.

The IFPYB feels this loss very deeply, with very heavy hearts.

Comrade Gasa ran a good race, and may he now rest in God’s eternal peace!

We wish to extend our most sincere condolences to the Gasa family.

Gasa is survived by his Parents, his Fiancée Comrade Nomvula, his children and siblings.
