KZN COGTA MEC Must Urgently Intervene At Dysfunctional Jozini Municipality

Apr 10, 2015 | Press Releases

The IFP calls on the KwaZulu-Natal COGTA MEC, Nomusa Dube-Ncube to immediately intervene at Jozini Municipality, as ANC councillors are rendering the municipality dysfunctional.

"We want the MEC to force the Speaker to call a Council Meeting to discuss important matters, especially the approval of the Adjustment Budget. This is the second time that ANC councillors have held the municipality to ransom by not allowing processes to run smoothly, instead they hold their own meeting outside the boardroom whilst leaving opposition parties locked in the boardroom for the entire day," said IFP Councillor in Jozini Municipality, Philani Mabuyakhulu.

"Clearly service delivery will be the greatest victim of this political wrangling. Urgent outside intervention is now required. To expect the Speaker, himself a political appointee, to sift through the mess of accusations would be unreasonable and surely will not be guaranteed to serve the interests of the community," concluded Mabuyakhulu.

The IFP calls on the MEC to take swift action against ANC councillors before Jozini Municipality becomes yet another failed KZN Municipality.
