MEDIA ALERT IFPYB to open defamation case against uMfolozi Mayor

Tomorrow, Tuesday, 2 March 2020, the IFP Youth Brigade (IFPYB) will open a defamation of character case against uMfolozi Mayor, Cllr Mgenge. This follows serious allegations made against IFPYB Deputy Publicity Secretary, Lonhle Gumede, falsely accusing him of involvement in a gender-based violence offence.

The Mayor made these utterances on a Nongoma FM current affairs programme, where he was responding to a statement issued by the IFPYB – warning him of the repercussions of employing an unqualified acting CFO in uMfolozi Municipality, Mr Vusi Mdletshe.

Interesting to note: a day after IFPYB statement, on 25 February, a special Council Meeting was called to retract the CFO’s appointment. The IFPYB feels vindicated by this action, which indicates that the IFP’s allegations about the ongoing corruption in uMfolozi Municipality could be true.

We call on Mayor Mgenge to engage us with caution, as his political dwarfism is exposing him, and this time he has overstepped his limits. Accusing Lonhle Gumede of a crime he didn’t commit in an attempt to tarnish his image and silence him exposes Mayor Mgenge’s political bankruptcy. These cheap political tactics will not work.

As the IFPYB, all we want is for him to pay back the R100 000, which was deposited in his personal account. Following the revelations regarding ghost employees on the uMsunduzi Municipality payroll, we feel that the uMfolozi Municipality should also be investigated, as the rot starts from the head. This Municipality appears to be a cash cow and a looting den for Mayor Mgenge and his cabal.

The IFPYB demands that the Mayor publicly retract the accusations levelled against Lonhle Gumede, or face the full might of law.
