Probe into Orange Bag Saga

May 24, 2018 | Press Releases

The Inkatha Freedom Party welcomes the investigation by the Hawks Commercial Crime Unit into Durban Solid Waste (DSW) for the allegedly irregular awarding of a R90-million orange recycling bag tender.

We as the IFP, hope that the Hawks will come up with concrete facts, as our letter to the CFO questioning the tender was merely acknowledged with very vague answers, stating that an investigation was concluded and recommendations were forwarded to the City Integrity & Investigations Unit (CIIU) and the Legal & Compliance Unit. The matter had also been through a court process wherein the Municipality had to settle an amount of approximately R6.8million.

The IFP stated that its expectation is that the investigation of the Hawks will establish, exactly, why eThekwini Municipality had to settle in court to pay such a large amount of money and, action must be taken to prevent corruption occurring within the municipality.
