The Inkatha Freedom Party is extremely disappointed at the ruling by a North Gauteng High Court to lift the moratorium in trading of rhino horn in South Africa, legalizing animal brutality and it calls for an urgent intervention by the Department of Environmental Affairs.
IFP Chief Whip and spokesperson on Environmental Affairs, Mr Narend Singh, MP said, “The government has once again failed to adequately protect the rhino of South Africa. This government still appears to be ‘lukewarm’ on the matter of protecting our rhino and this must change.
“The Department failure to follow the correct process when implementing this moratorium, as stated by the court has once again put at risk the lives of thousands of rhinos who are facing this brutality”, added Mr Singh.
“There is a lot of money being exchanged in the black market. In most cases this is being run by the very rich people to satisfy their own selfish interests.
This has been confirmed by Thursday’s raids in Germiston, Edenvale, Bedfordview and Pretoria where police have confiscated rhino horns valued at R1.4 million, R1-million in cash, 13 unlicensed firearms and six luxury vehicles,”
“The IFP will continue to fight, not to lose the war against the cruelty of our indigenous wildlife,” concluded Mr Singh.
