Tackling Challenges at the SABC is a Step in the Right Direction

The IFP welcomes the difficult, honest and challenging report delivered before Parliament’s Communications Portfolio Committee this evening.

The reality of the difficult financial affairs, years of poor management, pending corruption cases, many suspensions and lack of decisive and strong leadership from the top down has finally sunk in.

It is certainly unfortunate that the public broadcaster has no other choice but to retrench and trim the bloated, unskilled and highly over-paid staff who may have been wrongfully appointed.

We acknowledge that this decision will hurt many at the SABC and it is certainly never easy when people’s lives and their livelihoods will be affected due to poor decision making and ineffective and unethical leadership.

The IFP will continue to monitor affairs as they unfold at the public broadcaster and we are committed to working together with the Minister and the Portfolio Committee Members to hold the senior leadership and Board of the SABC accountable.
