The IFP Expresses its Reservation At Deputy Speaker Election

The Official Opposition in the 6th Session of the Legislature of KwaZulu Natal, the Inkatha freedom Party (IFP), expresses its reservations on the election of Mluleki Ndobe as Deputy Speaker of the KwaZulu Natal Legislature.

Immediately before the 2019 General Elections of the country and whilst serving as Mayor of Harry Gwala District, Mr Ndobe was charged with the murder of the late Secretary General of the ANCYL, Mr Sindiso Magaqa. Whilst the charges were later withdrawn, this matter remains an albatross that will remain hanging around Mr Ndobe until this matter is resolved in court.

The IFP is of the view that in the spirit of good governance and adherence to the rule of law, Mr Ndobe should be remaining out of any public representative position, let alone the senior position of Deputy Speaker, until the Sindiso Magaqa matter gets resolved in a court of law. The tainted Ndobe will not enjoy the trust that is due to this position whilst this dark cloud remains hanging above his head.

Mr Ndobe went public that he will name and shame all the people who used the criminal justice system against him for political reasons. Up to this day, Mr Ndobe has not kept his commitment to the people of KwaZulu Natal on such a serious case.

The IFP therefore calls upon Mr Ndobe to keep his commitment or do the honourable thing to resign himself from this position.
