Uncertainty Around Date For The Official Opening Of The KZN Legislature

The Inkatha Freedom Party in KwaZulu-Natal expresses its concern that there is uncertainty about the opening date for the KZN Legislature.

“As a political party represented in the KZN Legislature we have not been informed when the Official Opening will take place. As early as last year we knew that the National Assembly will open on 11 February 2016 and we expected that the KZN Legislature Speaker will inform all political parties in the province of the date when the legislature will open but this has not happened to date. This uncertainty makes it difficult for us as members of the legislature to plan our diaries. This is very frustrating and shows that the ruling party in the province is in disarray and does not know what is happening,” said IFP Leader in the KZN Provincial Legislature, Hon Blessed Gwala.

“It would appear to us that the infighting within the ANC is frustrating the functioning of the government of the province. This is unacceptable and we call upon the Speaker and the Premier to get their respective houses in order. Honourable Members of the Legislature cannot be kept in the dark about such matters. By this time we should have been provided with a Calendar of Activities for the legislature so that we will be able to know what is happening and when. The Opening of the Legislature is a ceremonial event that is attended by many dignitaries and therefore it is important that the date be made know without any further delay,” concluded Hon Gwala.
