The IFP would like to send its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of former Bafana Bafana midfielder John “Shoes” Moshoeu who passed away after a long battle with cancer.
“The sadness of Shoes Moshoeu’s passing is felt by football lovers across the country. He battled cancer for a long time and his death highlights once again the need to look at how we can aggressively take steps to ensure that millions of other South Africans have a fighting chance against this beatable disease” said IFP spokesperson on Sports and Recreation, Mr Petros Sithole.
“Doctors need to have greater freedom in exploring alternative medical options for those battling cancer and our laws need to accommodate that. The standard protocol for treating cancer has not provided a cure, but in most cases can be detrimental to the health of the patient”.
“The Medical Innovation Bill would provide opportunities for the medical field to access alternative treatments for cancer and would allow us to enable those who can to find a cure, as the conventional methods have not done so” said Sithole.
“We also call on the health and sports departments to work together in ensuring that players are better looked after, as their bodies are affected by the demands of their careers, the consequences of which show up later in their lives” said Sithole.
