The IFP in KwaZulu-Natal knows that government ministers will go around handing out food parcels and other items to encourage people to vote during by-elections and communities are urged to go and accept these items as it is coming from government and not the ANC.
“From past experience we know that many government ministers and MECs will descend like vultures on areas when by-elections take place, and use government funds to campaign for ANC candidates. We can predict that the same will happen in all 19 wards in Mtubatuba as the by-elections are set to take place on 6 May 2015. We know that the Minister of Social Development and her provincial counterpart will arrive with truck-loads of food parcels, walking sticks, seeds, blankets, etc bought with government funds. These are not gifts from the ANC.
These are bought with tax payer’s money and we therefore urge people to go to those events in their masses and accept what government is bringing to them”, said IFP National Chairperson, Mr Blessed Gwala MPL.
“Our people must benefit from these events that are held under the guise of community outreach programmes. We question why is it that these programmes are held only when there is going to be a by-election. People will not be fooled any longer. This is their money and all citizens must get the benefits not just a select few. So we urge people to go in their numbers and take the food parcels, but they must also go out and vote for the candidate who will serve them well.
They do not have to vote for a certain candidate because the minister or MEC is from that party. They must vote for the candidate of their choice while benefitting from what government has to offer,” said Mr Gwala.
