The Inkatha Freedom Party has lambasted the eThekwini Municipality due to its failure to provide water at Home Affairs Offices in Prospecton in Durban.
"Today I visited these offices after I received complaints from concerned public members who went to the Department of Home Affairs in Prospecton as early as 06H00 to access services. They found that officials had locked themselves in their offices and no one provided them with a proper explanation about why the offices were closed. I was forced to drive to these offices to find out what is the problem. The District Manager, Tersia Hanekom stated that there is no water supply and that’s why they decided to close the offices. From the explanation given it is clear that the eThekwini Municipality is at fault ," said IFP Deputy National Spokesperson, Joshua Mazibuko KZN MPL.
"This proves that the eThekwini Municipality lacks efficient service delivery and bold leadership when it comes to the provision of essential services to the people. If eThekwini Municipality is concerned about providing services to the people it should have responded urgently and despatched water tankers to the affected areas. Such weaknesses in service delivery are as a result of a shift of focus by those in charge of running the municipality. They are now more concerned with the internal squabbles of the ANC and the local government elections rather than providing services to our people," continued Mr Mazibuko.
"We agreed with the officials that they must inform the public and notices must also be put up at the entrance notifying the public about the current situation. I have insisted that water must be supplied immediately and services at the Home Affairs offices must return to normal," concluded Mr Mazibuko
