The South African Democratic Student Movement (SADESMO), the IFP aligned student wing, calls on the Department of Education to release the remaining 2014 matric results statements that were withheld due to cheating allegations levelled at some learners.
“Three weeks have passed yet the full results have not been released by Umalusi and the Department of Education, following the investigation that was conducted concerning matric learners who were suspected to have cheated during their exams. In the past week we were inundated with calls from disgruntled students who voiced their concerns about this situation. This will make us believe that those cheating allegations against these learners were baseless, since there is no word from the Department on this issue. The investigation has been completed but learners are still waiting for their statements of results,” said SADESMO Secretary General, Mr. Sizwe Simelane.
“We are concerned about the withheld results because this will have a negative impact on their future, as they will most likely miss the registration deadline at tertiary institutions, which comes to an end next week, while lectures have even begun in other universities. As SADESMO, we cannot turn a blind eye to this matter as it involves the future of our young people. The Department and Umalusi must think of the effects this situation will have on the future of these students,” continued Mr. Simelane.
“We demand that these matric statements be released urgently without any further delay. Learners want to pursue their careers, therefore cannot afford to see their future being destroyed by the department continuing to withhold their statements,” concluded Mr. Simelane.
