The IFP demands answers from the National Police Commissioner, Riah Phiyega about how long the nation must wait to know who killed Senzo Meyiwa.
"It is high time for the National Police Commissioner to tell us how far the investigation about the killing of Senzo Meyiwa is. We have lost patience now because we have waited for so long, as the investigators seem to be dragging their heels in fast tracking their investigations. We will not rest as a nation until the police apprehend the killers. The Meyiwa family are still waiting for answers about the death of their son but 'till today nothing has happened. This is ridiculous," said IFP National Chairperson, Mr Blessed Gwala.
"Soon after the death of Senzo Meyiwa, the National Police Commission told the nation that the country's top regional and national detectives led by Gauteng's head of detectives have been appointed to investigate the fatal shooting of our national hero. We demand that a new team of investigators must be appointed because the current team has failed to make a breakthrough. They must go back to square one, reconstruct the scene, ask all the people who were there what they saw and take it from there," continued Mr Gwala.
"There has been no success in the case for the past three months now despite assurances from top cops that they were close to making an arrest. The National Police Commissioner must be held accountable for this delay. We haven't heard any update since then. If it was relatives of ANC top leaders who died they would have not dragged their feet like they are doing in this case. We will ask questions and demand answers," concluded Mr Gwala.
The IFP calls on the National Police Commissioner to give updates on what progress has been made in arresting the killers of Senzo Meyiwa.
